Number of possible mumps cases in New Jersey rises
The number of suspected mumps cases in New Jersey’s Monmouth County has risen to 36, with one case confirmed, according to a statement from the county’s health department.
Officials announced last week that several people who either worked at or were patrons at D’Jais in Belmar were reporting symptoms of mumps.
The Jersey Shore bar closed voluntarily last week and 32 employees were given the mumps, measles and rubella vaccine, The Star-Ledger reported.
Public Health Coordinator Michael Meddis said the average age of the people reporting symptoms is 26 years old and 39 percent of those affected are females. All but one of the cases under investigation are adults.
