Drunken Needham man allegedly tried to choke Tampa Bay Rays mascot
A Needham man is accused of getting drunk and twice grabbing the Tampa Bay Rays mascot “Raymond” around the neck at Tuesday’s Red Sox game in St. Petersburg, The Boston Globe reports.
Trevor James Martin, 27, was charged with disorderly intoxication in a public space, according to St. Petersburg police, who said in a police report that Martin wrapped his hands around Raymond’s neck and pulled him back toward a railing, causing Raymond to “push off the defendant in order to break loose.”
Witnesses told police that Martin appeared intoxicated, and was stumbling and slurring his speech, however Martin allegedly told police he drank only two beers.
The man in the Raymond costume did not press battery charges, police said.
