Attempted child abduction in Plymouth has residents on high alert

Parents and police are on high alert in Plymouth after a report of an attempted child abduction, in which two men tried to coax a group of young children into their car.

The incident occurred on Old Mill Lane about 6 p.m. Sunday, Plymouth police told WHDH. The 5- and 6-year-old children ran from the two men and told their parents.

Police Chief Michael Botieri told the Patriot Ledger that the children’s statements and the behavior of the two men in the vehicle “inferred that they were trying to get the children to enter the vehicle. The vehicle fled the area as the children ran and notified their parents.”

Police attempted to pursue the vehicle, which then slammed into another car in an intersection before speeding away. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured, the Ledger reported.

A reverse 911 call was put out to Plymouth residents to alert them of the incident. The vehicle was described as a white sedan, possibly a Nissan Altima, with Rhode Island plates, occupied by two black men.

In addition to the reverse 911 call, all schools in Plymouth sent a letter home with children to notify parents of the situation.

Due to the collision, the white sedan is expected to have significant damage to its front. Anyone with information is asked to contact Plymouth police at 508-746-1212.
