Bensalem Township Police are warning drivers to be on the lookout for a man posing as a police officer.

Investigators said a male motorist was around 1 a.m. Monday stopped on the 3200 block of Hulmeville Road by a man operating a newer model white Chevrolet Impala with flashing red and blue lights on the front grill, dashboard and rear deck.

Police said the man requested the motorist’s driver’s license but “appeared nervous.”

When the driver got out of his vehicle, feeling the officer was an impostor, the suspect allegedly terminated the stop and fled north on Hulmeville Road.

Authorities said it’s possible the suspect may have thought he stopped a female driver.

He is described as a 6-foot-tall thin white male in his 40s with short dark hair, a light beard dotted with gray, a pointy nose and sharp facial features.

He was last seen wearing a blue long-sleeved sweater, black pants and dark sneakers.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Bensalem Police at 215-633-3719, or to submit an anonymous tip by dialing 215-633-3660, emailing tips@bensalem-township.org, or by downloading the My PD app.

In the meantime, police are reminding motorists to, in the event they’re stopped by someone they feel is not an officer, lock their doors, ask the person for identification and to call 911.

Authorities said all officers’ badges are inscribed with a police department name.
