Police in Danvers are searching for a man who posed as a Danvers cop and groped a woman after pulling her over.

A man in a black Dodge Charger with blue grill lights pulled a female driver over on State Road near the intersection of Route 128 and Elliott Street about 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, claiming to be a police officer. He then ordered the woman to get out of the car.

In a statement, Danvers Police Chief Neil Ouellette said the male was described as wearing a dark colored uniform with a badge, identified himself as a police officer and eventually groped the victim while giving her a pat-down.

The man did not indicate why he pulled the woman over, but did say he ran her info and she wasn’t in the system, according to NECN.

Ouellette said the man appeared to have fled on Route 62 after giving the woman back her license.

The suspect is described as a white man with dark hair and a medium build, according to FOX 25.

Police say they are working on leads, but have yet to take anyone into custody.

Authorities are asking anyone with information or those who may have witnessed the incident to contact Danvers police at 978-774-1388 or to submit an anonymous tip online.
