2 children suffer chemical burns on Queens bus
A Queens man is in police custody after chemicals he was transporting on a city bus sent two young boys to a hospital burn unit, police said.
The brothers, 5 and 8, were riding the Q53 bus in Forest Hills when a toxic chemical mix leaked onto them from a backpack belonging to Ivan Ivanov.
Ivanov, 32, said he was transporting cleaning supplies home from his job at the John F. Kennedy Airport. He was arrested at the scene and charged with reckless endangerment.
The children suffered minor injuries and were taken to the burn unit of New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Police have not yet determined the nature of the chemical that caused the burns.
