Bill de Blasio has racked up another high-profile Democrat’s endorsement.

President Barack Obama officially endorsed de Blasio for New York City mayor on Monday morning.

Obama lauded de Blasio’s “vision for New York City,” of which he noted “progressive change is the centerpiece.”

“It’s why he will be a great mayor of America’s largest city,” Obama said  in a statement.

Obama cited de Blasio’s proposals for universal pre-K, after-school programs for middle school students, affordable housing and preserving community hospitals as some appealing “bold, courageous ideas” of de Blasio’s platform that “address the great challenges of our time.”

De Blasio said he is “deeply honored” by the president’s endorsement and spoke of their “shared value of making sure everyone has a fair shot.”

“The president is no stranger to addressing big problems with big ideas and big solutions,” de Blasio said in a statement. “I will emulate the example he has set, and if elected I stand eager to work with him on an urban agenda that grows prosperity for all.”

Republican candidate Joe Lhota told reporters after an unrelated press conference that the president’s endorsement didn’t come as a surprise.

“I fully suspected the president would be supporting Bill de Blasio,” he said. “That’s not a surprise at all.”
