Boston College has suspended a student who turned himself in after allegedly writing false information online claiming he had raped three women during his time at the university.

The post appeared Tuesday afternoon on the Boston College Confessions Facebook page, where students anonymously post public comments about their college experience, and described three instances in which the poster claims to have raped inebriated and unresponsive women.

“The student who admitted to posting the hoax has been suspended from the University and is no longer part of the BC community,” Dean of Students Paul J. Chebator said in an email. When asked whether investigators were confident that the student’s claims were in fact false, Chebator said, “Yes, BC Police continued their investigation and concluded that the posting was in fact a hoax.”

An excerpt from the lengthy post reads:

At first she resisted, but between her fatigue and disarray, she gave in to it. We had sex that night. I used one of my roommate’s condoms, but to my horror, when I finished, I came to the disturbing realization that she had passed out at some point during the experience. Did I just do what I think I did? The thought horrified me. I needed to talk to the girl about it in the morning when she woke up, just to clarify that it was never my intent to do that to her. I just got caught up in the moment. No girl has ever given me attention, so in this situation, I finally was able to get what I wanted. I put her clothes back on her (which was more difficult than you’d think) and tucked her into my roommate’s bed. When she woke up the next morning, she asked me who I was and why she was in my room. She had no recollection of the prior night. I was thankful, because this meant that I didn’t have to apologize.

The original post has been removed.

The student, who was not identified, went on to say that he could not control his “self-consuming” thoughts.

“I don’t know what I should do. On the one hand, I know that I need to get help, but on the other hand, I can’t help but be driven to do it again. I have these self-consuming thoughts that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to control,” he wrote.

“The student appeared quite remorseful; nevertheless, this matter will continue to be investigated and the student will be referred to the student conduct system for resolution of this matter,” Chebator told the Globe via email.

Students on the Facebook page, which is not affiliated with Boston College, met the post with outrage and disgust. A group of students organized an on-campus event, scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, “so students can have a safe space to learn about resources, voice their concerns, and engage in a discussion on how to address rape culture on our campus.”

“We know the statistics about sexual assault. That reality has been brought to the forefront of our attention through a Facebook post. This should be a greater concern for all of us. Turn your discontent into positive action,” organizers wrote on the event’s Facebook page.
