biker gang assault prosecutors drop charges

NYPD detectives have identified the biker seen on video using his helmet to smash in the driver’s side window of an SUV that ran over one of his friends on the West Side Highway on Sunday, a law enforcement official reported.

Police said their suspect is Reginald Chance, 38, who they said has a lengthy arrest record, including charges of selling drugs, weapons possession, and two robberies involving serious injuries. Detectives have located him, according to a law enforcement source, but Chance has already gotten a lawyer. Chance’s lawyer reportedly told law enforcement Chance will turn himself in on Thursday or Friday. He had not yet done so by Thursday evening.

Police were originally searching for this suspect and another individual, later identified as Allen Edwards. Edwards and this suspect were seen on video as the first people approaching the SUV driven by Alexian Lien. After this individual bashed in Lien’s window, Lien was pulled out of the car and badly beaten by a mob of bikers.

Lien’s wife and two-year-old daughter were in the car at the time. The biker he ran over, Lawrence, Mass. resident Edwin “Jay” Mieses, is still hospitalized at St. Luke’s Hospital. A vigil was held outside the hospital for him last night.

Edwards turned himself in on Wednesday, but charges against him were dropped on Thursday when the Manhattan District Attorney’s office opted not to prosecute him. The bikers were part of a “Hollywood Stuntz” ride that may have been organized by a Brooklyn biker named Jamie Lao.
