Police are investigating a double shooting that occurred Thursday night near an East Germantown schoolyard.

Officers around 7:45 p.m. responded to the 400 block of East Washington Lane.

There, they were notified two men who suffered gunshot wounds were taken by private vehicle to Albert Einstein Medical Center.

One man, 22, was shot in the left knee, while the second man, also 22, was shot in the right calf.

Both men were listed in stable condition.

The men told investigators they were walking on Tulpehocken Street near Ross Street when they heard people arguing in the schoolyard of Roosevelt Middle School, located at 430 E. Washington Ln.

When they started to walk up the steps leading to the schoolyard, they said they heard gunshots and started to run.

Both men said they never saw who was shooting but that the shots came from the schoolyard of Roosevelt Middle School, where a group of men were fighting.

Police said two men were stopped at Germantown Avenue and Herman Street on the belief they may have been involved in the shooting, but the suspects were cleared by investigation.

The inquiry into the double shooting is ongoing.
