Two in one week: Another woman falls onto MBTA tracks

For the second time in the past week, a passenger had to be pulled from a MBTA pit after falling onto T tracks, only this time, sleepwalking was to blame.

The transit agency on Monday morning released surveillance video taken at Davis Square Station that shows the 31-year-old woman walking off the platform and landing on the tracks below. Apparently disoriented, she is seen sitting on the tracks for a few moments before a crowd rushes to help. She told the ambulance crew that she had fallen asleep on the bench and must have sleepwalked into the tracks, CBS reports.

A T spokesman said she was never in danger of being struck by a train, and she was treated for an injury to her arm.

One of the passengers who was criticized on YouTube for appearing confused during the situation explained the situation, saying in the comment section:

Hi, that was me. For context: There’s a grate right above where she fell, and due to the acoustics, it sounded like the sound was coming from above, so I went to see if it was coming from outisde the station. As soon as she yelled “Help me!”, I started calling for help — You can see me rush back leading the large group of people, before running off to press the emergency button and call the person in the station box. I appreciate your judging of strangers without any context, however.

On Tuesday, a group of Red Line passengers rescued a woman from train tracks at Downtown Crossing Station. One of the people involved in the incident said on her blog that she was shocked at the apparent apathy of bystanders.
