Cab driver attacked with box cutter: Police

A cab driver was attacked with a box cutter late Friday night after dropping a passenger off at the wrong location, police said.

The assault occurred around 2 a.m. on Saturday, according to police reports.

Police said the passenger was picked up on the Lower East Side in Manhattan at Delancey and Ludlow and driven to the Bronx.

When they pulled up in front of 1964 Grand Concourse, the passenger told the driver they were at the wrong location.

The driver asked to be paid, cops said, and said he would take the passenger to the right location.

Police said the passenger threw money at the driver, punched him in the face and got out of the cab.

The passenger went on t smash windows on the passenger side of the cab, then hurtle around to the driver’s side and punch the driver in the face again before pulling out a box cutter and slashing the driver’s wrist and the left side of his back.

Police said he reached into the cab and snatched back his cab fare, slashed the front two tired of the taxi and ran off down East 179 Street.

The cab driver was taken to St. Barnabus Hospital and treated for his injuries. He has since been released.

Police are asking for the public’s help in finding the passenger. He is described as being a 5-foot-9 male in his 20s, about 180 pounds with brown eyes, dark hair and a light complexion. He was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, police said.
