Ministers from the New York Hispanic Clergy Organization and State Sen. Reverend Ruben Diaz are planning to pray outside the Major League Baseball offices in Midtown Manhattan on Thursday.

They will be praying that Alex Rodriguez successfully appeals the punishment he is facing following accusations that he used performance-enhancing drugs.

Diaz called the 211-game suspension doled out to the star Yankees third baseman “unpredecented,” as well as “excessive and abusive.” The Senator all but accused the MLB of racism.

“It reeks of discrimination,” Diaz said in a statement. “I believe that MLB Commissioner Bud Selig has been much kinder and gentler in their punishments for others who have done worse things.”

Diaz vowed that at 11:30 a.m., he, his fellow religious leaders, and Fernando Mateo, president of Hispanics Across America, will gather outside the office building at the corner of Park Avenue and East 47th Street.

“We will ask the Lord to protect him and his family,” Diaz said. “We will pray that Alex Rodriguez’s appeal of this outrageous penalty will be successful. We will not turn our backs on this injustice.”
