Police say Lunenburg mother ‘strong suspect’ in racist graffiti case

Lunenburg police said they believe the mother of the 13-year-old football player whose home was spray-painted with racist graffiti last month may be responsible for the vandalism.

Andrea Brazier, the teen’s mother, is considered a “strong suspect” in the graffiti incident, police announced on Tuesday, WBZ-TV reported.

Police executing a search warrant at the home found evidence including two cans of spray paint in the family’s fireplace. Brazier told police she spray-painted over the graffiti that was painted on her home.

“Andrea stated that she had painted over the graffiti and that she wanted nothing further to do with the investigation,” the police affidavit said, according to the Worcester Telegram. “Andrea stated that she can’t sleep at night and that this is ripping her family apart. … Andrea stated that she wanted the press to stop and wanted us to end it.”

The search at the house came one day after police said there was no evidence linking the vandalism to Lunenburg football players, according to the Worcester Telegram.

Last month the Phillips family told police that someone had painted racist graffiti on the side of the family’s home reading, “Knights don’t need n—.” The school’s varsity football game was canceled as a result.
