The cities of Boston, Cambridge and Quincy have been named the sixth best-paying metropolitan area for women, a new Forbes survey reveals.

Financial website NerdWallet sifted through the most recent data available, the 2012 American Community Survey by the U.S. Census, to determine which metro areas paid the best, and how their salaries compare to those of men in the same metro area.

According to Forbes, in an examination of men and women working full-time in more than 500 major metropolitan areas across the U.S., NerdWallet discovered that the median salary for women in Boston as of 2014 is $50,000 — 79 percent of the average male worker’s salary.

The top spot for women’s earnings went to San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, where women earn a median income of $56,000. Women’s salaries are closest to those of men in the San Francisco area: 84 percent of their male counterparts’ paychecks.

As for the worst-paying metro area for women, their median salary in Laredo, Texas, was $24,700.
