Officials say an Attleboro elementary school student created a “hit list” that featured the names of several classmates.

A substitute teacher at Hill Roberts Elementary School discovered the note, allegedly written by a fourth-grade student, the Attleboro Sun Chronicle reported. While the name of the child who wrote the note was not released, police said they believe they know the child’s identity.

In a statement to FOX 25, Superintendent Kenneth Sheen’s office said there is no reason to worry about the safety of students at the school.

“It does involve a student note; however, he does not have all of the information at this time,” read the statement. “A very thorough investigation is underway and all of the appropriate people and agencies will be involved. The superintendent feels confident that all of the students involved are safe, and he will continue to take the necessary steps to keep them safe.”

Sheen also told the Sun Chronicle that he will be meeting with school officials, staff and police to discuss the incident. At a Monday school committee meeting, Sheehan read a prepared statement but did not comment on what the punishment would be for the student who is responsible.

“We’re taking this very seriously,” Sheehan said. ”We’re going to do this with due diligence.”
