Malala Yousufzai releases first video statement since Taliban attack

Malala Yousufzai, the 15-year-old girl shot by the Taliban back in October, released her first video statement in which she promised to keep serving the people.

“Today you can see that I am alive, I can speak. I can see you. I can see everyone,” she said in her statement. “Today I can speak and I am getting better day by day.”

It was only a few days ago Yousufzai had reconstructive skull surgery where a titanium plate was put in her skull at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Britain.

In her video statement, Yousufzai credits her supporters and their prayers for helping her heal.

“It’s just because of the prayers of people. Because all people – men, women children – all of them have prayed for me. And because all these prayers God has given me this new life, a second life. And I want to serve. I want to serve the people. I want every girls, every child, to be educated. For that reason, we have organized the Malala Fund.”

The Malala Fund was set up in 2012 with the help of a $10 million donation from Pakistan, according to the Associated Press.

Yousufzai’s video was recorded on January 22 by a PR firm.
