French sailor fights crocodile latched onto his head

Yoann Galeran, a 29-year-old French sailor, had luck on his side when he came face-to-face with a crocodile. Literally, face-to-face as the crocodile attacked his head.

Galeran, who was in Australia at the time, was swimming when he felt a heavy weight on top of him. He immediately knew it was a crocodile he told NT News.

“It felt like a big stone or something come to my head,” he said to NT News. “I just thought for sure that is a croc and I started to think the only thing to do was to move my body as much as I can.”

Galeran continued to fight with the crocodile, despite it being very dark, with no moon at the time.

The crocodile’s power pushed Galeran under water, which is when the crocodile began to spin him around.

“I didn’t think about dying,” he said. “ I only thought about fighting to stay alive.”

Galeran said he was in the crocodile’s mouth for less than a second but that he suffered two puncture wounds from teeth on the back of his neck. He also suffered another three or four puncture wounds on the sides of his heads.

Galeran also had an awfully compassionate response to the attack.

“O hugged him, gave him a little cuddle, and he said, ‘He is nice, he is nice’ so he left me alone,” he said.

We’re not quite sure how many people in the same situation would have hugged and cuddled a crocodile.
