Donations thrive after thief takes tots’ toys
No one wants to let this Christmas Grinch win.
After word got out that more than a thousand toys were stolen from a Burlington Toys for Tots storage facility, the donations came pouring in yesterday.
Toy collection sites were re-opened at State Police barracks and certain store locations throughout the state. Some people and businesses offered checks so the charity could quickly replace the stolen toys.
The deadline for toy collection passed Friday evening, but because of the robbery, the deadline for donations was extended until 6 p.m. today.
“Since it hit the news, a lot of people have been helping out. … It’s kind of refreshing to see that,” said Jack Kinsherf, a spokesman for Greater Boston Toys for Tots. “You can’t say enough bad things about the clowns that did this.”
Police believe the toys were stolen sometime Saturday. The toys that were taken were higher-priced items and meant for children ages 8 and up.
