Katie Couric: Tufts turns tables on CBS anchor

CBS Evening Anchor Katie Couric visited Tufts University yesterday to participate in The Murrow Forum.

Sitting under a projection of her legendary predecessor, Edward R. Murrow, the tables were turned on Katie Couric as rumors she’s leaving her post as CBS Evening News anchor intensified before yesterday’s Murrow Forum at Tufts University.

“I’d like to break some big-time news story here at Tufts, but I’m not able to,” said Couric, whose contract expires in June.

She all but denied a reunion with former Today Show co-host Matt Lauer on a syndicated show.

“He’s got a job right now, and I’m figuring out what I’m doing,” she said.

Couric also releases her new book, “The Best Advice I Ever Got: Lessons from Extraordinary Lives,” today. The book features chapters by some of her best interview subjects, including Olympic figure skater and current Tufts graduate student Michelle Kwan.

“My chapter was about falling and getting back up,” said Kwan, before discussing Couric’s career. “She’s always good at making transitions. Whatever she does, she’ll do it well.”

Couric was the subject of a front page New York Times story yesterday.

“I’m right in the thick of it,” she said. “This is interesting timing for me and it’s disconcerting to me just … reading the paper and it’s like ‘ahhhh!’ when you see your name.”
