MBTA wants new CPO position for up to $130k per year

The MBTA is looking to bring in some new blood according to GM Rich Davey, by hiring a Chief Procurement Officer to oversee operations at the transit authority.

According to a public post online looking for applicants for the position, the CPO would make anywhere from $90,000 to $130,000 per year working with the T.

Davey said it is a new position as part of the MBTA’s ongoing review to make improvements at a time when the T is in debt.

The CPO would be in charge of both the Contract Administration and Procurement Department offices.

“We have determined it is in best practices to have a [CPO] in charge of both groups to make sure vendor lists are expanded. It’s something I am very interested in. Improvement can be made by having a unified workforce.,” said Davey.

Davey said no negative incident within either office spawned the idea to hire a CPO, it was merely because he wanted to have “best practices in place.”

Davey said Human Resources are handling applications from outside the agency, but he was not aware of how many people have applied for the job so far.

The job description states that the CPO will direct, oversee and have ultimate responsibility for the programs and activities of personnel engaged in procurement, purchasing and contract administration functions.

The post for the position went online on July 21.
