T fare evader caught with loaded gun
If Hamilton Rodriguez would have paid the $2 subway fare, he probably would have been able to keep his gun.
Rodriguez, 20, of Chelsea, was arrested by Transit Police officers yesterday afternoon at Andrew station in South Boston after he jumped a closed fare gate, police said.
He made the jump in front of the pair of officers who then began to question him, according to a police report.
When they asked for his identification, he ran but the officers were able to grab his shirt and eventually get his hands cuffed after a brief struggle.
Officers found a loaded pistol in Rodriguez’s front pocket, according to the report.
“If he had just produced ID then possibly he may have been able to get past the officers this time,” said Deputy Police Chief Joseph O’Connor.
However, O’Connor added, because the officers had a “keen” eye and noticed that Rodriguez began acting nervously and suspiciously they were able to recover the illegal gun.
Rodriguez was charged with gun crimes as well as fare evasion.
