No sign of infant allegedly left in bin
State Police sifted through more than 100 tons of trash and debris over the weekend in search of a child that was allegedly abandoned in a recycling bin, but authorities haven’t determined the credibility of the report after no child was found.
According to police reports, a Newton resident discovered a note on Friday that indicated a teenager by the name of “Bimini” abandoned her 4-month-old daughter “Sonny” inside the plastic container, which launched a rapid search through the mounds of debris.
The State Police Special Emergency Response Team ended its six-hour search at the Recycle America waste management facility in Avon, where Newton’s debris is transported, when no baby was found.
The box that the note was written on, placed inside the Newton resident’s recycle bin, was addressed to a home in Attleboro, but police determined it had no connection to the location, police reports stated.
“The box and the note found in the recycling container [will be processed] by forensic chemists and crime scene technicians,” said David Procopio, State Police spokesman.
Procopio said Newton police would continue investigating today to “observe as employees sort debris from other parts of the facility, in order to ensure that no other materials contain any evidence.”
