Occupy Boston: Police, protesters butt heads over … butting heads

It’s a battle of he said/she said, after more than 140 protesters were arrested last week while trying to expand their campground outside of Dewey Square as part of the Occupy Boston movement.

The occupiers claim some officers were forceful, throwing punches and dragging protesters by their throats when arresting them.

The police had a different version, however, saying protesters fought back, and in some cases assaulted officers.

Now, the American Civil Liberties Union is trying to gauge what might have gone down Tuesday morning at 1:30 a.m., as police stormed the section of the Rose Kennedy Greenway and arrested the protesters who were linked arm-in-arm around their encampment.

“We are interested in what has been going on and we put out a call [last] week to have protesters let us know if they had suffered mistreatment at the hands of the police,” said ACLU spokesman Chris Ott.
Ott said the group is also interested in finding out if any protesters were allegedly interrogated about their political views during their arrests.

As of Friday, no one had filed a formal complaint with the ACLU or with the Boston Police Department.
