Giants victory parade will mean pandemonium in Lower Manhattan

Be prepared: Lower Manhattan will be a zoo this morning.

The Giants ticker-tape parade begins at 11 a.m., but fans can be expected to venture toward the “Canyon of Heroes” much earlier. Whether you’re headed there yourself or not, stay alert about the following changes to your morning commute.

Broadway will be completely shut down from Battery Park City to Worth Street, officials said — and that means you might encounter barricades on your way to work.

And don’t plan on driving, either — the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel’s Trinity Place exit in Manhattan will be closed from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the Brooklyn Bridge will not be accessible from Park Row by City Hall.

Subway riders, prepare yourselves. Beginning at 10 a.m., the MTA is closing five entire stations for parts of the morning — Fulton Street’s 4, 5, A and C station, Wall Street’s 4, 5, Chambers Street A and C station, the World Trade Center E and the City Hall R station.

Underground trains will operate at rush hour service, said MTA spokeswoman Deirdre Parker.
“We feel there will be enough capacity,” she said.

Other nearby stations will be accessible, like the Wall and Fulton Street 2 and 3 stations and the Rector Street R, but prepare for crowds, as fans will likely exit at those stations in lieu of the closed stations.

The MTA recommends taking these stations, or the J at Chambers Street or the 1 at South Ferry and walking uptown.

The 4, 5 and 6 at Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall also will remain open.

Beginning as early as 7 a.m, bus service along Broadway will be detoured to Water Street.

And don’t plan on bringing any fun back home with you: Alcohol will not be sold or allowed on any LIRR, or subway, trains.
