DA drops rape charge facing BU hockey star Corey Trivino

A Boston University hockey player accused of sexually assaulting a female student had a felony charge against him dropped last week.

Hockey player Corey Trivino will not face a charge of assault with intent to rape after it was dismissed due to a lack of evidence, according to Jake Wark, a spokesman for the Suffolk district attorney’s office.

“The evidence was insufficient to proceed on the allegation that Trivino physically assaulted the victim with the specific intent to commit forcible rape,” Wark said.

A judge granted the prosecution’s request to drop the charge, and as a result, Trivino will not face a grand jury.

Five charges against Trivino are still pending including indecent assault and battery and  breaking and entering in the nighttime. He is expected back in court in late April.

Trivino was kicked off the BU hockey team after the allegations surfaced in December.

A second BU hockey player accused of rape, two months after Trivino was arrested, sparked the university’s president to form a task force investigating the men’s hockey culture at the school.

In court today

Max Nicastro, the BU hockey player accused of raping a student on campus, will be in Brighton District Court today.
