The height of fashion: Models to rappel Revere Hotel

Climbers Andy Other and Nick Lewis rappel down the side of the Revere Hotel in preparation for Wednesday’s fashion show.

High fashion is taking on a whole new meaning in the Hub. To celebrate the 237th anniversary of Paul Revere’s ride, models will be rappelling down the side of Boston’s newest place to crash: Revere Hotel.

From 24-stories high, clothed in outfits made by local college fashion designers, models will be part of the vertical fashion show, which can be seen on the exterior of the building on Stuart Street Wednesday.

“We wanted to do something that was quite splashy … and over the top,” said Simon Mais, general manager of Revere Boston.

With the help of the Boston Rock Gym, models will be strapped into high-tech rappelling rope and harnesses to strut their stuff face-first toward the pool deck on the hotel’s sixth floor.

There, the fashion show will continue, featuring new designs from Ted Baker London.

Spectators can grab a free pair of binoculars from Revere representatives to watch the high-flying fashion show from the street or a nearby balcony.

Students from the Massachusetts College of Arts and Design created the outfits worn by the models, which will also be worn by the hotel staff.

Mais said Revere partnered with the school’s senior student group earlier this year to design the employee clothing.

“When we were looking to create Revere, we wanted to  incorporate all things Boston,” he said.
