Text leads to arrest of three men in Cambridge

The seized evidence.

Three Cambridge men were arrested yesterday on drug, weapons and stolen property charges and police are crediting a person who texted them information leading to the bust.

Police received an anonymous text about 9 p.m. yesterday that said a group of men were smoking marijuana and causing a disturbance on Pine Street in Cambridge.

When police arrived the found the men allegedly smoking marijuana and then discovered the weapons and paraphernalia.

A search revealed the men were in possession of several bags of marijuana, cell phones, a digital scale, pocket knives, brass knuckles and $300 in cash.

Jeff and James Bonaventure, both 18, were arrested.

Tevin Brown, 20, was arrested for having a warrant for receiving stolen property.

Cambridge police said it was the second time in less than two weeks that information from an anonymous tipster led to an arrest. A person sent an e-mail to police last week that led to a man arrested on a warrant.

“These arrests were the direct result of information shared with us by anonymous tipsters who wanted to make their neighborhoods and their community a safer place,” said Deputy Superintendent Paul Ames.

Tips can be sent by text message to Tip411. Messages should begin with “Tip650″ followed by the message.
