Babe Ruth’s Sudbury home up for sale

A real estate broker is hoping to hit a home run with his latest listing – Babe Ruth’s Sudbury home.

The 5,124 square-foot house is on two acres and was built in 1800. It also has a barn, stables, a pool and room for 25 parking spaces, according to the listing.

But it’s not just the spacious home and land that make the listing price $1.65 million. It’s also the history. The former Red Sox and New York Yankees slugger made his home there for years.

Scott Adamson, an agent with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, said there are still some burn marks in one room of the house where Ruth would flick his cigar ashes.

Adamson said he expects the sell to happen quickly as the publicity has generated a lot of interest in the home. However, some of the interest is coming from baseball fanatics.

“I think a lot of people just want to walk through it,” Adamson said.

It might not be a bad idea for some current slumping Sox players to buy the house once inhabited by the Sultan of Swat.

However, Adamson said he hasn’t heard anything yet from the Sox.
