The longtime girlfriend of alleged fugitive mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger will be sentenced tomorrow on federal charges and prosecutors want her to spend a decade in jail for harboring the fugitive.

Prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney’s office want Catherine Greig, 61, to spend 120 months in jail and pay a $150,000 fine. She pleaded guilty in March to conspiracy to harbor a fugitive, conspiracy to commit identity fraud and identity fraud.

Judge Douglas Woodlock will sentence Greig during a hearing in federal court tomorrow morning that is expected to be filled with members of the media, family members of Bulger’s alleged victims, interested attorneys and Greig’s sister, Margaret McCusker, who has appeared in court for most of the hearings.

In their sentencing memorandum filed Friday, prosecutors said the potential deterrent effect of Greig’s sentence is high.

“High-profile defendants such as Bulger require substantial assistance if they are to remain fugitives,” prosecutors said in the memo. “Individuals in a position such as Greig must know that there is a high price to be paid for choosing personal affection and loyalty over their legal obligations.”

While Greig prepares to likely serve a few years behind bars, Bulger is preparing to go to trial.
   
The 82-year-old is being held in Plymouth jail while he waits for his November trial date.
   
He has pleaded not guilty to the federal indictment that charges him with various crimes including involvement in 19 murders.
   
His lawyer has requested to push back the November trial because of the massive amount of evidence defense lawyers have had to sift through, but a judge has refused to move the date.
