Some admit guilt in BU hazing case

Boston Police and BU officials are investigating an alleged hazing incident that occurred in Allston Monday. According to reports, five pledges were found bound together, covered in various sauces, with partly-shaved heads.

Two of the Boston University students involved in a hazing incident earlier this year in the basement of an Allston home admitted responsibility during a court hearing today.

Robert Rappa and Jonathan Katz, both 22 and of Brookline, admitted to their charges during a hearing in Brighton District Court today, according to the Suffolk district attorney’s office.

Rappa was charged with hazing and failure to report hazing. He was ordered to pay $400 in court fees and to complete 40 hours of community service. He directed the pledges to the Allston home.

Katz, who was able to prove he was not at the house when the hazing occurred, was ordered to pay $200 in court costs for failure to report hazing.

Police responded to the Ashford Street home just after midnight on April 9.

In the basement of the home they found five Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity pledges who were duct taped together and were ordered to disrobe. They also had hot chili sauce poured on them, causing welts to appear on their skin, authorities said. They were also told to drink fish oil.

Jesse Kay, 20, of Allston, was also arraigned today. He pleaded not guilty to hazing, failure to report hazing and five counts of assault and battery. He was released on his own recognizance and is due back in court Aug. 20.

Spencer Davidson, 21, of Allston, also pleaded not guilty to the same charges during a hearing last week. He is also due back in court at a later date.

Kyle Shevrin, 21, of Brookline was scheduled to be arraigned today, but did not appear in court. He did notify officials that he was out of state and would not be able to attend, but a judge issued a default warrant for him. The judge did put the warrant on hold until Aug. 20, Shevrin’s new arraignment date.

Michael Sanieoff, 22, who lived at the Ashford Street home, pleaded not guilty to keeping a disorderly house during a hearing in May. He is due back in court next week.

Kay and Davidson could face more than three years in jail for their charges.
