Belligerent bus passenger shouts, spits, smashes and assaults

Carlos Ramirez-Rodrigue

It was likely a memorable evening commute for some passengers on an MBTA bus Tuesday when an angry and out of control passenger’s outburst ended with an assault on transit police, and an arrest.

Around 7:45 p.m., Carlos Ramirez-Rodrigue, 38, was kicked off a bus at the intersection of Dudley and Hampden Streets for allegedly screaming and swearing. But on his way out, Ramirez-Rodrigue allegedly spat at the driver multiple times.

Once he stepped off the bus, the driver said he closed the door, a move that for some unknown reason angered Ramirez-Rodrigue even further.

He then began “punching the front passenger door with a closed fist and shattered the window,” according to transit police.

He was soon taken into police custody, the whole time acting “very uncooperative, yelling and screaming profanity.”

During the booking process, Ramirez-Rodrigue allegedly became “extremely violent” towards officers, grabbing one of their thumbs “in an attempt to break it.”

During a search of his person, police said they found a bag of marijuana in Ramirez-Rodrigue’s shorts.

By that time, Ramirez-Rodrigue had still not simmered down. Police said that while in the safety cell, he spat on officers.

He was charged with malicious or wanton damaging of property, assault and two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, and was issued a citation for having one ounce or less of marijuana.
