Teen arrested for T robbery while bailing out alleged accomplices
A Dorchester teen was arrested Tuesday night, accused of unarmed robbery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, after fleeing the scene of the alleged crime and heading to the police station to bail out his friends.
According to MBTA transit police, Eric Thompson, 18, or Dorchester was one of seven teens to physically assault and steal a cell phone from a woman at Tufts Medical Center station around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday.
While his cohorts were caught by transit police on Washington Street near the intersection of Union Park a short time after, Thompson was able to escape.
That is until, according to transit police, he showed up at the transit police headquarters asking to bail out the suspects who were arrested earlier in the evening.
“A keen eyed Transit Police officer recognized Thompson as being involved in the attack at MBTA Tufts Medical Center station and placed him under arrest in the lobby of (the headquarters),” transit police said in a statement.
Two of the suspects include Kernisha Smith, 18, of Dorchester, and Demario Barbara, 17, of Mattapan, as well as four other juveniles.
They were all expected in court sometime today.
