MTA: No MetroCard refunds after Hurricane Sandy

The MTA may have gotten subways back up and running within two weeks of the devastating Hurricane Sandy, but don’t ask for much more than that.

There will no refunds or extensions for people who purchased unlimited MetroCards and were unable to use them during service interruptions due to the storm, MTA spokesman Kevin Ortiz confirmed to Metro. He declined to offer any further explanation for the decision.

The MTA did offer free rides for the first two days trains were running with limited service after Sandy, but that didn’t do much for unlimited MetroCard holders who had already purchased their rides for that time period. A 30-day unlimited MetroCard costs $104.

The 1, J, Z, A and R trains are still experiencing service changes, according to the MTA’s website.
