American Red Cross launches mobile food program for local veterans

The American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts has launched a mobile feeding program to support the men and women who have served in the United States armed forces, the organization announced today.

Through the new program, volunteers from the Red Cross’s Services to Armed Forces and Food and Nutrition programs will deliver bags of groceries to veterans in Massachusetts communities, and will also offer assistance in enrolling on food stamp programs.

“Food security is a fundamental building block in rebuilding a life. We at the American Red Cross are hitting at the core of our mission to alleviate suffering by serving those who have served our country,” said Ashley Studley, a spokeswoman for the American Red Cross.

“This is our second of many mobile feeding programs. The first session proved successful, as Red Cross staffers handed out several bags of groceries to more than 40 veterans at the Bedford Veterans Quarters. Food Pantry staffers also helped veterans register for food stamps,” said Studley.

The second mobile food pantry will happen this Thursday at the Northeast Veterans Outreach Center in Haverhill located at 10 Reed St.

“There, we hope you will join us as we hand out as many food items as possible to hungry veterans,” Studley said.
