Chemical spill at Boston University lab prompts evacuation
A chemical spill at a Boston University lab prompted the evacuation of a 12-story building and a hazardous materials response this morning.
Boston fire crews responded to the school’s Life Science and Engineering Building on Cummington Mall at about 11:30 a.m., the fire department said.
The spill was reported in a 7th-floor laboratory.
About a liter of decahydronaphthalene spilled. It is a colorless liquid used as a solvent in things such as paint.
There were no reported injuries.
Because classes do not resume until tomorrow, there were only a few staff and graduate students working in the building at the time.
The spill was confined to one lab and cleaning crews were headed to the scene.
