Police: Man turns himself in for stealing from North End church
A man previously arrested for allegedly stealing money from seven Boston churches turned himself in yesterday on charges that he also stole from a North End church.
A warrant for the arrest of Richard Shiner, 47, was issued Dec. 27, according to police. It charged him with larceny over $250.
Shiner was allegedly the man seen on surveillance video taking money from boxes inside St. Leonard’s Church on Bennett Street.
Police said at least one person saw Shiner take the money.
“The witness entered the church, where he observed Shiner standing in front of a wooden candle box, sticking a white wooden stick through the money slot, removing cash bills, and placing them in his pocket,” police said.
Shiner then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
In 2010, Boston police arrested Shiner and charged him with breaking in to and robbing seven churches in Dorchester, Roxbury and the South End.
The outcome of that case was not immediately known.
