Boston firefighter injured fighting Mattapan blaze, 12 displaced
A firefighter was injured and a dozen people were displaced after an early morning blaze tore through a Mattapan building today.
Fire crews responded to 16 Estrella St., just after 2 a.m., and found smoke and heavy fire coming from the three-story building, according to the fire department.
Flames were seen coming from the third-floor.
Besides the flames, firefighters battled bitterly cold temperatures. It was 25 degrees when crews were on scene, according to the fire department.
There were 12 people displaced by the two-alarm fire and the Red Cross was called in to assist residents.
One firefighter was taken to Boston Medical Center for a burn injury.
Fire officials estimated the blaze caused about $500,000 in damage.
About two hours before the house fire, crews were called to a furniture showroom and warehouse on Freeport Street in Dorchester for a three-alarm fire.
That blaze, at Logan Furniture, tore though the interior of the warehouse.
There were no injuries reported from the warehouse fire.
Investigators are still determining the cause of both fires.
