A New York man is facing drug trafficking charges in Massachusetts after receiving a shipment of marijuana worth nearly $1 million.

Thomas Jin Kim of Brooklyn pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Tuesday in Stoughton District Court. Bail was set at $400,000.

Police in Canton say Kim was arrested on Friday when he attempted to pick up part of a 252-pound shipment of marijuana. The pot was packed in vacuum-sealed bags, inside boxes marked “fragile” sent from San Jose, Calif.

Employees at the shipping company alerted authorities after opening one of the boxes. They told police Kim has received several similar shipments within the last few months. More boxes addressed to him arrived Saturday.

Canton Police Chief Kenneth Berkowitz says it’s likely the largest drug bust in town history. He suspects Kim intended to sell the pot in the Boston area.

Authorities are now trying to find out who sent the drugs. Kim is due back in court next month.
