As another weekend storm takes aim at New England, a Mass. lawmaker is proposing a new way to help pay for snow removal.

Rep. John Binienda, a Democrat from Worcester, wants the state lottery to start selling a new $2 scratch-off ticket, called “Snow Bank.”

The proceeds would go into a fund administered by the state comptroller. Cities and towns could request money if they exhaust their snow removal budgets. Binienda’s bill will go before the legislature’s Joint Committee on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure.

Meantime, the National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch from Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon for central and western Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire.

Forecasters say parts of the state could see between six inches and a foot of heavy, wet snow, which could damage trees and knock down power lines.

A mix of rain and snow is expected in the Boston area.
