John Bolaris: Working woman wants man

John Bolaris
Metro columnist John Bolaris.

Hi, John.

Do men find women who are really into their careers attractive? I’m asking because I am 35 and still single. I like to think I am attractive and I get plenty of attention when I go out, but nothing ever gets serious.  am very busy with my work. Do you think that is why i haven’t had more luck in love? Or are men intimidated by women who are focused on their careers? As i get older, how do I know what about me it is that is turning men off? Also, where is the best place to go to meet a 35-year-old guy who’s serious about settling down? Thanks, love the column!

— Jennifer R.

Dear Jennifer R:

It’s no longer the 50s and 60s—the days of Ozzie and Harriet and June and Ward Cleaver when the women sit home, cook, cleans= and wait for their man to come home. Women’s careers have been soaring since the 80s. to the present day explosion.

Professional women are career-driven and strive for the top. And deservingly so. I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before she becomes the president of the United States. (Hmm … would that make her husband first man?)

Anyway, women now are getting married and having children later in life than perhaps Mom and Dad did.

To answer your question, “Are men intimidated by career women?” That is really going to depend on the self-confidence of the man. If he is lacking self-confidence and is turned off by an independent women (professionally), this isn’t the kind of man you want.

You should be dating men who are just as driven as you are, proud of what you do and give you inspiration. For the most part, this should not be a turnoff but a turnon. Two driven people that become one in a relationship and have a thirst to please one another could conquer almost anything as long as you have the “L” word between you both.

And finally, you ask where to go to meet such a man. That Jennifer, I believe has something to do with destiny…
