Report: State to take over Camden schools
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is expected to announce Monday morning that the state will take over Camden’s schools.
Christie will be joined by Department of Education Commissioner Christopher Cerf at around 11 a.m. at Camden’s Woodrow Wilson High School to announce the state takeover of the city’s schools, the Courier-Post reports.
Christie could appoint a new superintendent for the long-struggling district as part of the takeover, which reportedly would include control of finances.
Camden’s would become the fourth school district in New Jersey controlled by the state. The district has the second lowest graduation rate in the state.
