Delaware beach town considers smoking ban
Officials in Dewey Beach, Del., are considering a ban on smoking on public beaches.
“A lot of people have requested it in town,” Dewey Mayor Diane Hanson told The News Journal. “And it’s something that other towns have been doing.”
Should Dewey adopt a smoking ban on its beaches, it would become the fifth Delaware town with some sort of smoking ban. Fenwick Island and Bethany Beach prohibit smoking on its beaches, while Rehobeth Beach and Lewes have banned smoking at parks and playgrounds.
The soonest Dewey officials could vote to enact the beach smoking ban would be May, the paper reports.
