The kick-flippers and grinders are wheeling themselves out of Love Park and into their own habitat.

On Wednesday, the city will officially open Paine’s Park, a public skate park adjacent to the art museum.

The total cost of the park, which was first announced in 2002, was about $4.6 million.

The park, which stretches across about three acres and sits on the Schuylkill Trail, is wedged between Schuylkill River and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. It features brick quarter pipes, granite benches and metal railings.

The park is intended for pedestrians and not just skaters with the inclusion of green space, benches and cobblestone paths. The new space will host the Zumiez Couch Tour, a national skateboarding tour, and will feature live bands and professional skaters on June 21.
