Offenders will be susceptible to a $25 fine for the first offense.

For visitors to walk Wildwood’s boardwalk, they may be required to wear shoes, shirts and drawers that fit.

The proposed rule by city officials, which is scheduled for a June 12 public hearing, would make it illegal for any beach bum to walk the boards without covering their body.

According to the proposed regulation, flip-flops, shoes or sneakers must be worn at all times to protect against stray wood or nails.

A shirt, which covers a woman’s breasts and or a man’s pectoral area, must be worn at all times.

And the waistband of shorts, swim trunks, pants and/or skirts will not be worn more than 3 inches below the wearer’s waist , interpreted to mean at a level below the crest of the ilium, so as to expose either skin or garment underneath, at any time.

The city “has received numerous complaints from residents and visitors who frequent the city’s boardwalk and consider certain dress, or lack thereof, of a certain proportion of persons on the boardwalk as offensive, indecent and alarming to themselves and their children,” according to the proposed ordinance.

Offenders will be susceptible to a $25 fine for the first offense.
