Elderly Salem woman killed in hit-and-run
An 83-year-old Salem woman was killed in a hit-and-run Sunday in front of her Loring Avenue home.
Feliksa Mieszczanska was crossing the street in front of her home to dispose of garden weeds when a car struck her and continued on toward Swampscott, the Salem News reports.
A neighbor heard a “thump” and called 911 after seeing Mieszczanska in the street. She was pronounced dead at Salem Hospital.
Police said witnesses described seeing a small dark car, possibly a Honda or Mazda, flee the scene, according to the Salem News. There was likely damage to the front end and a smashed windshield, police said.
“I can still see her on the street. I saw her lying there,” said her sister Laura Mieszczanska, who lived with Feliksa. “I tried to call to her, but she didn’t answer… I can’t believe I lost my angel.”
The Loring Avenue area home is on a busy stretch of road with a speed limit of 30 mph. Police are asking anyone who has information about the incident to call Detective Daniel Tucker at 978-744-0171.
