Philadelphia police are seeking a person of interest in a so-called “Apple picking” robbery  last month that ended with a frustrated armed robber shooting the victim in the chest.

The violent crime happened just before 5:30 a.m. June 26 on the 1600 block of South 7th Street, in the city’s Southwark neighborhood.

Police on Wednesday posted surveillance video footage of a man they labeled a “person of interest” in the case to YouTube.

The armed robber approached the victim and demanded his iPhone. When the 26-year-old victim refused to hand over his smartphone, a struggle ensued between the robber and victim, and the suspect fired several shots, striking the victim once in the chest, police said.

The robber attempted to take the iPhone from the victim after shooting him, but he fled south on 7th Street without the smartphone, according to police.

The person of interest is described as a thin, black male, about 30 years old. He was clean-shaven and had close-cut hair at the time.

Police ask anyone with information about the man in the video to call South Detectives Division at 215-686-3013/3014.
