MTA to improve G train service after review
After releasing a service review of the G train, the MTA is hoping it can enhance the line’s efficiency for straphangers.
The MTA’s review of the G train line found that including extra trains during times of increased ridership would require $700,000 in additional funding.
After releasing the report, the MTA vowed on Twitter to add more G trains during peak periods at night.
The review also found adjusting service times and changing stop locations would make commuting much easier for the Brooklyn and Queens residents that the line serves.
“The G line is a vital connection for customers in fast-growing parts of our service area, and this review will be an important tool for making both short-term improvements and long-term additions to our service,” MTA Chairman and CEO Thomas Prendergast said in a statement.
The review was requested by New York state Senators Daniel Squadron and Martin Malavé Dilan.
“Now G train riders will be en route to much-needed relief that may one day lead to the G meaning great,” said Sen. Squadron, who is currently running for Public Advocate. “Increased frequency, shorter wait times and better communication will go a long way for many riders.”
