VIDEO: ‘Daily Show’ pokes fun at Spitzer, Weiner

“The Daily Show” aired some local election coverage Wednesday night, poking fun at city comptroller candidate Eliot Spitzer and mayoral hopeful Anthony Weiner.

Spitzer, who stepped down as governor amid a prostitution scandal, and Weiner, who resigned from Congress after admitting to sending lewd photos to women online, make easy targets for John Oliver.

Filling in for Jon Stewart this summer, Oliver first talks about the comptroller race—or the race for the “most boring job on the planet”—which took a significant turn when Spitzer announced his candidacy last week.

Before Spitzer threw his hat into the ring, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer was considered the frontrunner. Outside of Manhattan, Stringer is relatively unknown, with Oliver referring to him as “Scott somebody-or-other.”

Calling him “Comptrol Freak,” the show, like many pundits and news outlets, likened Spitzer to Weiner, the “man who name is so perfect for the scandal he was caught up in.”

Watch the whole (slightly NSFW) segment above or check out the whole episode.

For obvious reasons, Comedy Central is extremely interested in the comptroller race and Spitzer will appear on “The Colbert Report” Thursday at 11:30 p.m.
