FBI agents play softball with youths in Strawberry Mansion
Agents with the FBI’s Philadelphia Division softball team on Thursday will face off against members of the Strawberry Mansion All-Star Baseball League, a community program that provides youths with positive alternatives to violence.
The seventh annual Step Up to the Plate to Strike Out Violence softball game kicks off at 1 p.m. at Mander Playground, located at 2140 N. 33rd St., with displays from specialized FBI units and community-hosted safety and social services information booths.
Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers will at 3 p.m. throw the ceremonial first pitch as the Phillie Phanatic cheers on both teams from the sidelines.
The Philadelphia FBI and the league first teamed up in 2008 to coordinate the event.
It’s all part of the FBI’s Step Up, Speak Up campaign, which proactively addresses violence by forging ties and building trust between residents and law enforcement officials in the hopes of maintaining open lines of communication.
